Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · In effect from
Draft for legal review. This document hasn’t been approved yet and may change before launch.
This policy explains how we use your personal information when you use the A Task Doer app or website, and the rights you have over it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
1.Who we are
[Company legal name] is the controller of your personal information. Our registered office is at [Registered office address]. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number [ICO registration number].
For anything about your personal information, email [email protected].
2.What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, mobile number, password (stored only in a form that can’t be reversed) and whether you are a Client or a Tasker.
- Your agreements and choices: which version of our terms and this policy you accepted and when, and your marketing and notification preferences.
- Tasker profile: your photo, display name, trading name, bio, services, hourly rate, base postcode and service area.
- Verification documents (Taskers): the photo ID and any certificates you upload, and the result of our check.
- Location: the postcode you search from, or your device’s location if you allow it. While a Tasker is Online, the app updates their approximate location. We store locations as an area of about 300 metres, not an exact point.
- Requests and connections: what you ask for or offer, the price guide, timings, photos you add and what happened to each request.
- Messages: your in-app chats, including any address you choose to share.
- Ratings you give and receive.
- Payments: if a fee applies, our payment provider Stripe holds your card details. We see only the card type, its last four digits and the payments made.
- Support: what you tell us when you contact us or report a problem.
- Technical information: your device type, app version, push notification token, IP address, and logs and error reports that help us keep the service working and secure.
3.How we use it, and why we are allowed to
The law requires a lawful basis for each way we use personal information. Ours are:
What we do Lawful basis Create and run your account, show you nearby Taskers or show you to Clients, pass on requests, open chat and contact details after acceptance, and send the notifications the service needs Contract: we need it to provide the service you signed up for Check Taskers’ identity documents Legitimate interests: keeping Clients safe and the directory trustworthy Detect and prevent fraud, abuse and rule-breaking, look into reports, and keep the service secure Legitimate interests: protecting our users and the service Take payment of any fee, and keep financial records Contract, and legal obligation Answer you when you contact us Contract, or legitimate interests Send marketing emails or texts Consent, which you can withdraw at any time Keep records the law requires, and respond to lawful requests from authorities Legal obligation Photo ID can show information about you beyond your name and face. We use it only to verify your identity, and restrict who can see it.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4.What other users see
- Clients see a Tasker’s photo, display name, services, rate, rating, badges and approximate distance or area. Never their exact location.
- A Tasker sees a Client’s request, including their approximate area, before deciding whether to accept.
- Once a request is accepted, both people can chat and see each other’s contact details as the app explains, and the Client sees the Tasker’s trading name.
- Your exact address is shared only if you choose to share it in chat.
6.Where it is stored
We store personal information in the UK or the European Economic Area. If a provider handles it outside these areas, we make sure it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
7.How long we keep it
- Your account information, for as long as your account is open.
- When you delete your account, you are signed out everywhere at once. Your account is then anonymised within 30 days.
- Chat messages, for up to 12 months after they are sent.
- Verification documents, until your account is closed, except where we need to keep a record of a check to deal with fraud or a legal claim.
- Records of payments, and of complaints and disputes, for 6 years, because the law or the possibility of a legal claim requires it.
- Technical logs and error reports, for a short time, usually no more than 90 days.
8.Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your personal information;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to how we use it where we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive information you gave us in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We will reply within one month. You can update most details yourself in the app, and delete your account under Profile, then Settings.
If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
9.Children
A Task Doer is only for people aged 18 or over. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we will close it.
10.Keeping it secure
We protect your information with encryption in transit, encrypted storage for the most sensitive data, strict access controls for our staff, and logs of what staff do. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it private.
12.Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the way we use personal information changes. We will tell you about important changes in the app. The version and date at the top of this page show which version applies.
