Terms of Use

Version 1.0 · In effect from

Draft for legal review. This document hasn’t been approved yet and may change before launch.

These terms apply to everyone who uses the A Task Doer app or website. Please read them before you sign up. By creating an account you agree to them. If you offer services, the Tasker Terms apply to you too.

In short: A Task Doer is a local directory. We help Clients find self-employed Taskers nearby. We are not a party to the work, and the agreement for the work is between the Client and the Tasker.

  1. 1.Who we are

    A Task Doer is run by [Company legal name], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [Company number]), whose registered office is at [Registered office address] (“we”, “us”). You can contact us at [email protected].

  2. 2.What A Task Doer is, and isn’t

    A Task Doer is an online directory that shows Clients the Taskers who are available near them, and lets them connect and talk. We act only as an intermediary.

    • We don’t employ Taskers, and Taskers don’t act for us. Each Tasker is an independent, self-employed trader.
    • We don’t set prices, assign work, supervise it, inspect it, or guarantee its quality, safety, legality or result.
    • We don’t collect, hold or pass on payment for the work. The Client pays the Tasker directly, in the way they agree.
    • We check Taskers’ identity documents and show the certificates they upload as badges, but we don’t check their work, skills, insurance or licences. Check these for yourself.

    When a Client and a Tasker agree a job, they make a contract with each other, not with us. A Tasker’s name, or trading name, is shown to the Client when a request is accepted, so the Client knows who they are dealing with.

  3. 3.Who can use it

    • You must be 18 or over and live in the UK.
    • You may have one account, and it must be in your own name.
    • The details you give us must be true and kept up to date.
    • You can’t use A Task Doer if we have suspended or removed you before, unless we agree.
  4. 4.Your account

    Keep your password private and don’t let anyone else use your account. You are responsible for what happens on it. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.

    When you sign up you choose whether you are a Client or a Tasker. This can’t be changed later in the app.

  5. 5.Finding and connecting as a Client

    You can search for Taskers by service and location, and send a request describing what you need. A Tasker can accept or decline. Requests expire if they aren’t answered in time, and there are limits on how many requests you can have open at once.

    Before a request is accepted, you can’t contact the Tasker directly. Phone numbers, email addresses and links typed into a request are hidden.

    Once a request is accepted, you can chat, and contact details are shared as the app explains. Your exact address is only shared if you choose to share it.

    Before work starts, agree with the Tasker what they will do, the price, and how and when you will pay. Check any qualification, registration or insurance the work needs. Your rights as a consumer, for example under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, are against the Tasker who does the work.

  6. 6.Fees

    Downloading the app, signing up and searching are free.

    We may charge a fee for some connections. If we do, the app will show you the amount, what it covers and any right you have to cancel, before you are charged. Card payments are processed by Stripe; we don’t see or store your full card number.

    Fees are for our directory service only. They are never payment for the work.

  7. 7.Ratings

    After a connection, the Client and the Tasker can rate each other from 1 to 5 stars. Ratings must be honest and based on your own experience of that connection.

    Don’t offer or ask for anything in return for a rating, rate yourself, or use ratings to threaten anyone. We may remove ratings that break these rules.

  8. 8.Our rules

    When you use A Task Doer, you must not:

    • break the law, or ask anyone to do anything illegal or unsafe;
    • harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone;
    • pretend to be someone else, or give false information;
    • post anything sexual, violent, hateful or misleading;
    • try to move people off the app before a request is accepted, for example by sharing contact details;
    • collect other users’ details for any purpose other than the connection you are in;
    • use the service for spam, scams or advertising;
    • interfere with the app or website, or try to access accounts or data that aren’t yours.
  9. 9.Staying safe

    Use your own judgement when you meet someone. Agree the work and the price before anything starts, keep your conversations in the app where you can, and don’t share more personal information than you need to. In an emergency, call 999.

  10. 10.Problems between users

    If something goes wrong with a job, try to sort it out with the other person first. You can also tell us. We will look at what you report and may record it against the account, warn the other person, or suspend or remove them.

    We don’t decide disputes about the work itself and we don’t pay compensation for it. That remains between the Client and the Tasker, and you keep any legal rights you have against each other.

  11. 11.What you post

    You keep ownership of what you add, such as your photo, profile, messages and requests. You give us permission to store, show and use it to run A Task Doer, for as long as it is on the service and for any period we have to keep it by law.

    You must have the right to share anything you post.

  12. 12.Suspending or closing accounts

    We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms, puts anyone at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.

    You can close your account at any time in the app (Profile, then Settings, then Delete account) or by following the steps on our account deletion page.

  13. 13.Our responsibility to you

    We provide A Task Doer with reasonable care and skill. We can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we may change or stop features.

    Because we only connect people, we are not responsible for the work a Tasker does or doesn’t do, what is said or done between users, or any loss that comes from them. We are also not responsible for losses we couldn’t reasonably foresee, or for business losses.

    Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t let us limit. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.

  14. 14.Changes to these terms

    We may update these terms, for example when the law or the service changes. We will tell you about important changes before they apply, and if we need your agreement the app will ask you for it. The version and date at the top of this page show which terms apply.

  15. 15.The law that applies

    These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts, and your local law protects you as well.
